Maria Rizzetto

Maria joined Lorway MacEachern McLeod Burke in 2022 as an associate. She is thrilled to have moved back home to Cape Breton to start her legal career after eleven years of living and working across the country. She obtained a Criminal Justice Specialization, the first of its kind in Canada, upon graduating from law school at Dalhousie. Through her previous career in public relations – working for large organizations such as the QEII Foundation, Halifax Water, and within the Procurement Department for the Province of Nova Scotia – Maria developed the critical skills necessary for negotiation and litigation that she fine-tuned during law school. Maria is developing a general practice currently focused on Criminal Law, Civil Litigation, Personal Injury, Wills and Estate Planning, and Family Law.

Maria was raised with a strong sense of community awareness and never hesitates to volunteer her time and skillset wherever she can. She sits on several boards and was named the recipient of the Dawn Russell Community Commitment Award upon graduating, a discretionary award chosen by faculty and staff for her commitment to community service. During law school, she took on many involvements to expand her understanding of the law, enable legal services to the public, and help other students succeed. Most notably she was named Judicial Board Chair for the Dalhousie Students’ Union, where she reviewed appeals of by-law infringements by students, led public hearings, and wrote public decisions.
